11 reasons to visit Wales - Travel Hacks

Did you know that I’m a “Winglish” person? OK, it’s not real, but there are a lot of people who feel a little Welsh and a little British, so that’s how it should be. Therefore, we are Winglish.

I was born in England but moved to Wales when I was five years old. I learned Welsh at school, most of my closest friends are Welsh, and I spent my childhood exploring the Welsh hinterland.

I know I’m technically British, but I also feel a sense of loyalty to the Welsh. I love this beautiful country and when I saw Wales described as ‘Britain’s underdog’ I felt a fierce loyalty to stand up for the underdog. Wales must not be the underdog! Wales is a gorgeous, mysterious and stunningly beautiful country.

I currently live on the border between England and Wales and these days I spend a lot of time exploring Wales.

It took me a while to narrow it down, but here are 10 reasons why I think you should visit Wales.

#1 Waterfalls

#2 The Beaches

Swansea’s Rhossili Bay Beach is the first beach to be named Britain’s Best Beach by TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice. I’m actually planning on going here for the weekend, so be prepared for your Instagram feed to be filled with beach photos!

#4 Welsh Castles

Wales may be small, but this tiny country is home to over 400 castles. Apparently, it has more castles per capita than any other country in the world. Approximately 100 of them still remain.

#5 The language

Welsh may not be the most beautiful language in the world, but it’s great that this small place still has its own language. If you’re visiting for the first time, don’t worry, no one knows how to read place names.

#6 The glamping options

You all know that I’m a big fan of glamping, and Wales is full of unusual glamping options. Would you like to stay in a tree house? no problem. How about a yurt? You can do that too. The Welsh have just about every glamping option imaginable.

#10 Stars

The stars look really beautiful in Wales. If you’re coming from London, prepare to be surprised. When I lived in London, I found myself needing sunglasses at night every time I went back to Wales.
