Are you a Weekender? – The Travel Hack

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the Christmas festivities.

It feels strange to have it all end so suddenly. One moment we’re knee-deep in mince pies and fairy lights and panic buying presents. The next moment we’re all detoxing and dieting, saving money and digging out our running shoes.

I’m stuck somewhere in the middle, wearing my gym kit while searching for all the chocolate, pie and wine still lurking around the house. Must be done!

If you’re like me, this time of year only signals one thing. It’s time to start planning your vacation (and if you’re reading this from across the pond, it’s also time to start planning your vacation!)

January is vacation planning season and it’s such an exciting time of year.

The Travel Hack is going to focus on weekend getaways. You may have already noticed the “Weekenders” tab at the top of the page?

This slight change comes after reading the results of my recent reader survey. I was truly surprised by the number of people who responded to the survey, and once again I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who responded.

One of the main themes from the survey was that people love weekend getaways. Most of us work 40 hours or more a week and want to make the most of our limited vacation time.

To get you started, we’ve put together 52 perfect weekend getaway ideas for people traveling from the UK.

So I’d like to invite you to become a Weekender with me.

A weekender is someone who doesn’t spend their precious Saturdays and Sundays lazing around on the couch. They would never dream of spending their Saturday afternoon in Tesco – have you ever been to Tesco on a Saturday afternoon? It’s hell on earth. Friday nights aren’t for kebabs and watching shitty TV, and Sunday afternoons aren’t for ironing.

Go on a trip this weekend!

The weekend is only two days long, so make the most of it now!

Weekenders are the type of people who sneak out of the office early on Friday after a hard week of work. They’ll be pulling their stylish little suitcases behind them and embracing the smug weekender’s swagger as they tell their colleagues where they’re going this weekend. Their colleagues wonder why their weekends aren’t so exciting and say things like, “Wow, you’re really lucky.’

But the Weekender is not so lucky. Weekend-goers got fired up and booked months in advance. It was probably on sale and at a bargain price.

Weekend people live a different life from Friday afternoon to Sunday night. They fly to exotic destinations, often traveling to places others have never heard of. They stay in boutique hotels, eat in quirky restaurants, explore forgotten cities, hike mountains, swim in the ocean, meet interesting people, and learn new things. All this is done before returning to home or work on Sunday evening.

People who spend their weekends are not wealthy. People who spend their weekends are just so knowledgeable. They know how to find great deals and know that you may have to compromise your flight time to stay in a luxury hotel.

One weekend you might be flying to Paris, but the next weekend you’ll be staying close to home. Maybe they went camping or found a cheap pad on Airbnb. They might be exploring something new in their hometown or taking a short road trip to a place they’ve never been before. Or maybe you saved up points and got a cheap flight to New York!

One thing weekenders never do is waste their weekends. Oh my god. Weekends are short and your weekends are precious, so whatever you do, don’t spend it at Tesco.
