Blog Reads, a cool job and my next trip to Slovenia – The Travel Hack

Blog reading, great work, and your next trip to Slovenia - Travel Hacks

It’s been a while since I wrote a blog browsing post, highlighting some of my favorite posts, videos, and contests that I stumbled upon in the blogosphere. As always, life is busy and once you fall out of a habit, it’s hard to get back on track. These little updates about what I’m reading somehow also turn into little life updates like travel announcements or quick summaries, so I try to update them as often as possible.

The last time I updated my blog was a month ago, and since then I’ve been to Dominica, Bruges, and Cyprus (wow, that sounds a little crazy when I write it). We had a great time at each destination and they were all amazingly different. We had lots of outdoor adventures in Dominica, a beautiful city getaway in Bruges, and a relaxing and healthy week in Cyprus. Keep reading to know about your next trip…

We invite you to a dinner party in another world {Messyness Chic

I’m a big fan of quirky dinner parties (like Copenhagen’s Gastrotheater Show), and Messiness Chic has found me the ultimate dinner party. This restaurant without walls is a traveling feast that brings people together on a culinary adventure.

What if a plastic bag did that to my bike {Vicky Flip Flop Travels}

There are some sad pictures here, take a look. This is the effect of plastic bags on wildlife, a very nonsensical and easily solved problem. Why are we still using plastic bags? I live on the border in Wales, where it is compulsory to pay for plastic bags. Sure, it took a few months for everyone to get used to it, but handing out plastic bags now seems crazy. Everyone has learned to carry a reusable bag and feel terrible when they forget. It’s a bit like quitting smoking. It felt weird at first, but now the whole idea of smoking indoors seems ridiculous and people can’t believe it was once legal. Ban plastic bags, I say.

How Millennials are changing international travel {The Atlantic}

“For American millennials, many of us feel there is little reason to wait until our golden years to see the world.”

If there’s one good thing coming out of a recession, it’s uncertainty. In this case, I mean uncertainty in a good way. We don’t know what the future holds, so let’s accept what we have now. I live in the moment and worry too much about the future.

Death Eaters Forever {Scarlet Wonderland}

If you haven’t read Scarlet Wonderland yet, please do. She has the perfect combination of being the friendly girl next door that you’ll want to chat with all day long, but also so crazy that each of her blog posts will blow your mind. They say crazy attracts crazy (I don’t think so, maybe I’m just saying that), but clearly she attracts some crazy readers… Like the ones that favor Lord Voldemort.

Blog reading, great work, and your next trip to Slovenia - Travel Hacks

Written by Donna Tartt

I downloaded The Goldfinch onto my Kindle a few months ago and completely forgot about it until I ran out of things to read on a flight to Dominica. I don’t know if this was a good or bad thing. Because I got hooked and spent many lazy nights swinging in a hammock with my Kindle glued to my hand.

This is a story about love and loss, the vulnerability of children, and the emotional value of priceless works of art.

This is one of the best books I’ve read in recent months, but be careful to only start reading if you have a clear schedule!

Competition/job of the week

This week’s contest isn’t just a contest, it’s a real job, and probably the coolest job you could ever want. Expedia Pioneer is looking for someone to spend a year traveling around the UK and exploring everything this beautiful country has to offer. Sounds good. The job also comes with a six-figure salary for him, so it gets even better. Learn more about.

My next adventure

And finally, it’s time to announce our next trip.

I told myself I was going to take a few weeks off from traveling. I felt like I needed time to stay home, recharge my batteries, and spend time with friends and family. And almost as soon as I unpacked my bag and my freshly washed clothes were neatly tucked away in my wardrobe (something that never happens in my house!), I began to feel my usual longing for exploration.

As I started to look at the giant world map taped to my desk, I got a call asking if I wanted to go to Ljubljana, Slovenia for a week!

Within seconds, I was checking my flight itinerary online, Googling what the weather would be like (mostly sunny, with a high of 28 degrees!), and making a mental checklist of everything I needed to pack did.

i’m leaving on Monday to join a group of #tasteLjubljana bloggers. Can you guess what we’re going to focus on? Yes, this is a foodie adventure, so expect to see lots of food porn on your Instagram feed!

I visited Ljubljana last year during a cruise port stop. I’ve fallen in love with this city, but I haven’t had the chance to see as much as I would have liked, so I’m really looking forward to exploring more.

If you have any recommendations for things to do, see or eat in Ljubljana, please let me know!
