A few weeks ago, an email arrived in my inbox asking if I would like to participate in the trivago app challenge.
Of course, anything related to travel and challenges fascinates me, so I accepted the offer right away. We’re really excited to talk to you about the trivago app’s Family Travel Challenge. Your fellow travel planners will love it because it includes finding great hotels!
My challenge is to use the new trivago app to book accommodation for two nights in a location of my choice. OK, this seems pretty easy, but it gets a little tricky. The first night is booked in advance, but the second night must be booked at the last minute. I’m also looking for family-friendly accommodation, so I’ll be bringing my mom and George as well.
The obsessive travel planner in me freaks out at the thought of forgetting to book a hotel until the last minute, but is excited by the fact that I get to stay in a place I wouldn’t normally choose.
I decided to try it around Snowdonia in Wales. As you can see from my last post, I’m totally hooked on Wales at the moment. Although Wales feels like a million miles away from home, it’s only a short drive away, which makes traveling with George, who will be 12 weeks old during the challenge, much easier.
We decided to stay in Portmeirion and Castel Deudraes for our first night.
I love Portmeirion. It’s like a magical little village in Wales. Never in a million years would I have thought I’d find an Italian-style village here.
We have a gorgeous family suite with two double bedrooms and plenty of space for all of our baby gear, so I think we’ll end up taking it with us!
My second night?
And the second night will be a surprise! Accommodation for the second night will be booked on the evening of the first night, so you may be able to stay anywhere depending on local availability. I’m already using the trivago app and it’s very easy to use, so you should be able to easily find really nice, family-friendly hotels within your chosen area.
As I said, the travel planner in me is a little nervous about this, so I’m exploring a few possibilities.
Bron Effiong Country House – This is absolutely beautiful and has hundreds of great reviews. The rooms look luxurious with four poster beds, but what really draws me to this hotel is its location. It is located very close to Criccieth Beach and on the coast road between Porthmadog and Pwllheli.
Treysgawen Hall – Country manor house with spa. It’s hard not to like the look of this place. George has never swum before, so I like the idea of taking him for his first swim here (definitely better than the local swimming hole).
Sionto Manor – Another luxury hotel with a swimming pool, roaring fireplace and a beautiful location in the foothills of Snowdonia.
Tyr Graig Castle – A castle just outside Barmouth that looks like a lovely relaxing place for families.
Which of these hotels would you stay at? Let me know in the comments below!
It has to be a place that impresses my mother, so it has to be good!
The Family Travel Challenge on my trivago app will run from June 2nd to 4th. You can follow what I’m working on on Twitter and Instagram.
You can download the trivago app for Android here and for iOS here.
