The Travel Hack's 2014 Travel Highlights - The Travel Hack

I always feel sad and nostalgic at the end of the year. Another year has passed, and even though it’s been a great year, there’s something sad about the way time passes and the months pass.

This year, I am trying to be more positive and optimistic. That’s not hard to do because I’m so excited for 2015. A new baby, a new home, and an empty calendar waiting to be filled with travel adventures!

I like writing annual summary articles. Because he alone reminds me of how much great things can be crammed into a year. It’s easy to forget what happened in January, so I had fun searching through old blog posts to find the highlights.

January

A body MOT and healthy weekend in Cheltenam

I started the year healthy by attending a weekend bootcamp at Cheltenham Spa. I loved the fact that this weekend we not only made some healthy fixes in the short term, but learned to take care of ourselves in the long term.

If you’re interested in fitness, we highly recommend our annual bootcamp to help you stay on track with your fitness goals. Unfortunately I won’t be able to go this year as I’m 7 months pregnant!

Oslo

I visited Oslo over the weekend to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. I love this city and enjoyed a snowy weekend exploring the food and bar scene.

A new puppy

January was also a very special month because we got a puppy! This is Little Louie, a French bulldog. Now it’s much bigger and snores like a pig next to me.

February

A wintery trip to Copenhagen

I can’t even explain how much I loved Copenhagen. I expected to like it, and I really did. It’s very chic, stylish and cute. It was still cold when we visited in February, but that didn’t ruin the trip. In fact, it was even better because I was able to take photos like this…

Lake Vyrnwy

I went on a short trip to Lake Vyrinwy in North Wales over the weekend to enjoy some relaxation, long walks, and lots of food. This is actually the view I saw when I woke up from bed. No, it really was!

Port Merion

Over Valentine’s weekend Sam took me on a surprise trip to Port Mellion in Wales and I was spoiled as hell. I knew very little about this unique little village before visiting, but it was such an amazing and strange little place.

Snowboarding in Catalonia

Did you know you could ski and snowboard in Spain? No, neither did I. It turns out that Spain is a great place to ski. This is especially true if you are a beginner or a timid person like me.

Trek America – my favourite trip of the year

Miami was followed by a two week road trip adventure with Trek America. We started in LA and visited San Diego, Lake Havasu, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco, Big Sur, Santa Barbara, and then back to LA. Needless to say, it was epic.

Dominica

At the end of May, I took my second favorite trip of the year. I spent a week in Dominica. This little-known Caribbean island is the ultimate destination for adventure seekers. Hike to the heated pools or snorkel in the champagne pools on this mountainous island. It was amazing and we had a great time.

Slovenia

I was preparing for a quiet summer when I got a last minute call asking if I wanted to go to Slovenia for a week. Of course I will!

I was blown away by this beautiful country and loved spending time exploring the capital, Ljubljana.

July + August

July and August were quiet months when it came to travel. The first half of this year was so busy that I planned to spend the summer at home. It turned out to be a very good idea since I was actually in the early stages of pregnancy. I didn’t feel sick in the beginning, but I was surprisingly tired, so I really enjoyed spending some time relaxing at home.

September

Cruising with Celebrity

Things got busy again in September when we took a weeklong European cruise. I traveled to Venice, Dubrovnik, Mykonos, and Istanbul on Celebrity Cruises. This week was truly a foodie week and I enjoyed every moment.
