Calling all bookworms and travel enthusiasts!
Our travel and book Twitter chat #TravelBookChat is back.
This is a chat for people who not only love reading, but also love the social aspect of books. Reading is a solitary act, but it’s great to have someone to share the experience with while and after reading a book. Someone with whom you can gossip about characters and share your shock at plot twists and turns. We do it in movies and TV shows, so why not in books!?
#TravelBookChat was originally launched by Jayne from Girl Tweets World (formerly 40before30.com). I loved participating in the chats, so earlier this year I suggested we bring them back.
Jayne and I have hosted many Twitter chats together, including a couple that trended on Twitter. So we’re really excited to be working on this together.
We want to bring together a community of travel and book lovers and make reading more social.
Let me tell you more about #TravelBookChat…
#TravelBookChat is held monthly and focuses on a different travel book each month. Books vary and include fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and basically anything that seems interesting and travel-related. Ideas are also welcome, so if you have an idea for a book, please let us know!
We publish the book at the beginning of each month and host an hour-long Twitter chat a few weeks later. In our Twitter chat, we’ll discuss the book and ask a series of questions to get the chat going.
This Month’s Theme: Australia
The first month was Australian themed. Jayne recently moved to Australia. Those of us stuck in the cold climate of Europe can temporarily escape to somewhere warmer.
Book of the Month: Trucks by Robin Davidson
(£2.99 on Kindle)
Tracks chronicles Robin’s 1,700-mile solo trek across the Australian outback with only a few camels and dogs for support.
The book description is as follows:
“I experienced that sinking feeling you get when you know you’ve tricked yourself into doing something difficult and there’s no going back.” A man embarks on a perilous journey of more than 1,700 miles through the Australian desert to the ocean with only four camels and a dog.
Enduring sweltering heat, scaring off venomous snakes and lustful men, chasing camels when they’re displeased, and nursing them when they’re injured, Davidson has a love for the Australian landscape, empathy for Indigenous people, and a love for his girlfriend. ’s willingness to shed the trappings of their previous identity. Tracks is a compelling and honest story of her journey of discovery and transformation.
To get a bit of a head start, I downloaded this book and started reading it last night, and I’m already hooked!
