It’s been a few weeks since I posted a weekend reading post of my favorite blog posts and articles from across the blogosphere. Here are some great posts that I’ve loved over the past few weeks.
Travel Writing Summary {Caroline in the City}
This is a really great resource for travel websites, blogs, and print publications looking for travel writers. Caroline included the amount they pay and a brief description providing background information. While not all of these opportunities are paid, guest blogging is a great way for new bloggers to get their name out there.
British Airways creates 3D microblogger {Skift
Remember when I mentioned on Facebook that British Airways did a 3D scan of me and created a 6-inch model? Then they sent her on holiday to Berlin. This was a really great campaign. You can read about it in her Skift article. Even though they got my name wrong, I’m still pretty excited to have been mentioned on Skift.
Social media doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does have to be social {they call it gumption}
i’m very happy that what I wrote led to something great. After working in social media, I really appreciate brands that “get it”. As we all know, brands are seriously using social media to increase sales and brand awareness. Social media is a very powerful tool when used well and it’s great to see trtl shaking it up.
10 reasons why I love {blogher}’s blog
Yes, yes, and yes. Yes 10 times.
Travel like a travel writer {National Geographic}
It’s worth reading even if you’re not interested in travel writing. I’m a little tired of people touting “travel like a local”. Of course, there are tourist traps you want to avoid, but don’t act like you’re not a tourist. When you travel like a tourist, you explore things, research, find new places, chat with people to find new places, and try to see and do as much as you can.
48 Hours in Ibiza {Your Little Black Book}
Ibiza isn’t all about superclubs and dancing until dawn. In fact, we love this 48-hour guide and quick video to get a taste of Ibiza, as it looks like a gorgeous destination perfect for a long weekend getaway. This guide is full of great recommendations for where to eat, things to see and do.
Stay away from your smartphone {here and there}
I’m so guilty of aimlessly scrolling through Facebook or Twitter as a way to distract myself from real work. This post made me stop and think about how much time I was wasting. As I mentioned in my post Behind the Scenes of Travel Hacks, I use a small alarm clock to prevent distractions. I choose 30 minutes, work hard during that time, and then “reward myself” with a 10-minute social media or tea break. 30 minutes may not seem like a long time, but you’ll be surprised at how much work you can get done without distractions.
Competition of the week

This is a great contest for HolidayCheck.com to win lots of prizes. We’re giving away iPad minis, Kindle Fires, GoPros, Lonely Planet Travel Guides, travel kits, and more. To earn, simply leave a review on the site. Many travel sites recognize that we like to read first-hand reviews from real people, so we think this is a great way to increase reviews and share your vacation experiences. Reviews come from hotels and attractions, and you can leave as many reviews as you like, increasing your chances of winning. Contest closes September 30th.
