Would you go on holiday half an hour from home? – The Travel Hack

Would you like to go on holiday 30 minutes from home? - travel hack

I’ve recently started vacationing closer to home, taking the concept of a “staycation” to a whole new level. It’s really close to home. A few weeks ago I also went on holiday to visit Llangollen, which is only 30 minutes from my house. Yes, I packed my suitcase, filled my car, and set off on vacation. And it arrived within 30 minutes.

wonderful!

Even when I went to Portmeirion and Crickies during the trivago challenge, they were less than two hours apart.

Most of us think of holidays as something that happens hundreds of miles away. Maybe you’ll fly far away and go somewhere completely new and exotic. New and exotic is great, but simple, relaxing and fun is just as great. Especially if you have limited time and funds and have a 3-month-old baby.

Not so long ago, it was unthinkable to spend a holiday so close together. But things change. Life changes, priorities change, and having a baby definitely changes everything.

As you probably know by now, I love traveling abroad, but since George was born, it’s not so easy to book a flight and go on a trip abroad at the last minute. I don’t want that to stop me from traveling, so I’m finding new ways to continue exploring without making life too difficult.

As I’ve gotten older, the way I feel about traveling has changed. There was a time when I wanted to fly around the world and see and do as much as I could. I had several places on my bucket list and wanted to visit as many new countries as possible. But travel and vacation don’t necessarily mean “newness.” It’s about spending time with friends and family, relaxing, enjoying your surroundings, and taking a break from everyday life.

Surprisingly, I loved my staycation vacation just as much as any other vacation I’ve taken recently.

I live on the border in North Wales so I’m very lucky to have so many great places to visit so close to home. But no matter where you live in the world, there’s probably a great place near you.

Here are just a few of the reasons why I love holidays close to home

  • Perfect if you don’t have time because you won’t be spending half your weekend traveling
  • Save money on travel expenses
  • Easy if you’re traveling with kids or pets
  • You probably know a little about the local area so you don’t need to do much research
  • If you know you’re going to have great weather over the weekend, it’s easier to book at the last minute (that’s a typical British saying!)
  • If you don’t go far, it’s easy to gather a large group of friends and family
  • Even if you’re just a little down the road, you can feel like you’re a million miles away from home

What do you think about vacationing close to home? Do you have other reasons to love them that you should add to your list?
